Workshops Now Available!

Have you been wanting to learn Modern Calligraphy? Well the time is finally here! Workshops are now available, and I'll be teaching you! These workshops are going to be in an intimate setting, with in-person, hands on teaching. Every student will get a full kit, which will give them everything needed to start a new hobby in calligraphy. The basic strokes will be taught, and then perfected as lowercase and uppercase alphabets are taught, as well as the rules of traditional calligraphy. Since the classes are for modern calligraphy, those traditional rules will be broken, which will result in personal, individual lettering styles, unique to each student.

Calligraphy is a great skill. Not only will you have a new technique to impress your friends with, but you'll also have a greater understanding of the art of lettering, and it's importance in our society! Handwriting will soon be a lost art, unless it is carried on through hobbyists and professionals...which after a little practice, could easily be you! You'll leave this workshop with a great understanding of the forms needed to create beautiful writing, which can allow you to address beautiful cards, make your own wedding invitations, or lovely pieces of artwork for gifts or your own home!

Your kit is fully included in the class cost, as well as some light refreshments. Grab a handful of friends, and let's set up a date! Classes can be held in your homes if you like, or feel free to come out to one of the pre-scheduled dates!

Send me an email if you would like to host a class, or head over to the workshop page to look at the dates already scheduled! I hope to see you soon, and get a pen in your hand!

How Strong My Love Is - Custom Work

I have this client, Jillian, whom I love working with. She has commissioned quite a few pieces from me, and has gifted them all as wedding presents over the last year and a bit. She manages to find out what the first dance song is going to be at each of the wedding she attends, and bases her custom pieces off those songs. She's so good at letting me play a little with design, using the inspiration she gives, either through the type of people the wedding couple are, what the wedding colours are, or what their invitations look like.

This custom piece was for a New Years Eve wedding. I can imagine that you could have such a classy affaire on New Years, or you could have a wild party to celebrate your wedding. Jillian sent me a photo of the wedding invite for this wedding, and it was all over classy. Beautiful silver branch accents surrounded clean black script and all their details. Jillian requested that this custom piece reflect the same. I searched out silver gouache, the right one that would add just the right touch of glamour and shine to this piece. Since I couldn't find silver in my favourite brand, at least not in time to get this piece done by New Years, I went on the recommendation of my local Curry's Art Supplies store employee. They sold me on a silver gouache that still had a nice opaqueness and shine, and I was very happy with the results. (If I could find the tube in my mess of a studio right now, I'd share it with you...but unfortunately I can't, and so linking you to the brand will have to wait!)

Unexpected Miracles

This was a custom order that I painted for a beautiful customer this past.  She was a treat to work with, and had great ideas for what she wanted.  This piece she was gifting to a friend of her for their 50th birthday, but more than that, she wanted to make it known to her friend of her importance in their lives, and the community of families she works with.  From what I could gather, she works with children with life threatening diseases, and each of these kids are miracle.  She wanted an ethereal blue and green painting, with dragonflies and butterflies, and tropical looking florals as the decoration around the quote she had picked out.  It was so much fun to paint, and the customer was so happy with the sketch that I had sent out, so I hope that she loved the final piece as well.

Interested in a custom order for yourself, or for someone else (especially with Christmas coming up way too soon), send me a quick email (CLICK HERE) and we can get chatting! I'd love to make you something special!

Don't forget that all prints in the shop are on sale until October 31st! Head over to the SHOP and pick some up at the discount before the month is up!

A Rustic Garden Wedding Invite Suite for Olivia and David

I had the pleasure this summer to make the wedding invitations for an old friend, Olivia, and her now husband, David.  Olivia was a stunning bride, and was so easy to work with.  She sent me an inspiration photo of a bouquet she found on the internet, which she used to build her whole colour palette and overall feel of the wedding around.  Filled with soft peach and pinks, and ethereal leafy greens.  I used this bouquet inspiration to create some delicate watercolour flowers on her invitation, as well as adding a lantern on the RSVP card.  She had used lanterns as part of her centrepieces, so it tied everything together nicely.  I used a simple and clean hand lettered script for invite, as well as hand drawn map of the ceremony and reception locations.  The bride hand lettered the envelopes herself, in her own writing, which I think complimented the work that I did well.

I'm super thankful to my sister, Ali Happer, of The Entrance Collective.  She made sure to capture a quick shot of the invite suite for me on the wedding day.  Below are some more shots of the wedding that The Entrance Collective captured.

Thank you to Emily Herron, of Love Emily Herron, for the invite suite photo styling!

All photos in the post were taken by The Entrance Collective.  Do yourself a favour and check out more of their work!

I Don't Dance Custom Work

Along with the various prints I have in my shop, I also really enjoy doing custom designs for clients.  This was a custom piece for a wedding gift, and I really enjoyed creating it.  I loved the rope border that was requested, and the lovely landscape and sunset.  I believe that the lake that is pictured is special to the couple, so it was so kind of my client to think of using that in this piece.  Feel free to contact me if you want anything custom done!
